From Lon Shoor, NESCA - It was a beautiful day for the first day of racing. The winds were 5-10 and pretty squirrelly most of the time with big shifts and the lake at a lot of chop from motorboats. The two courses today were both 2 1/2 times around and the heading was 110 degrees.

The first race had Lon Schoor (H-7) leading at the first mark only to drop to 6th at the leeward mark The group behind was able to sink low on their sets in a little puff that the H-7 didn't get. At the Leeward mark it was Jay Rendall (W-4), Andy Burdick (I-45), Tom Burton (M-9), Jeff Solum (M-12), Rob Evans (M-1). H7 got the lead back at the weather mark, by going hard right while the others were center right, followed by Burton, Evans, Rendall, Burdict, Solum, Jewett, Vincent Porter. On the last down wind H-7 jibed back to the shore as most the boats did. It was Andy that finally found his groove on the last upwind taking a hitch to the left after the leeward mark along with Burton and Jewett. They had a nice port tack up the center while others were struggling a little on their right. At the finish it was Burdick, Burton, Jewett, Shoor, Vincent Porter, Jeff Solum, Rob Evans, and Rendall.

In the second race the winds were more up and down, with bigger shifts, and bigger chop on the water. PRO Mike Sharon got the second race off without a delay - we sure like to see that. Nice work Mike.  Andy Burdick lead the second race all the way. At the first mark he was followed by Rob Evans, Burton, Bill Biwer (V-82), Crayke Windor (Z-7), Olness (M-8).

The big mover on t he first lap was Kevin Jewett going from 12th to 3rd, Evans stayed in 2nd, and PJ Friend moved into 4th from 8th at the first mark. These were followed by Burton, Bill Allen, Jeff Solum, Olness, Brian Porter (Brian was over at the start - 24th at the first mark - and 8th after the first lap. Impressive considering the nature of the winds and water.  On the last leg Chad Olness hit the left hard and moved from 6th to 2nd place at the finish after the Burdick team lead all the way. Evans was next followed by Jewett, Vincent Porter, Solum, Burton, Brian Porter, Friend.
