22 August 2008
As published by Scowlines - Happening this weekend on beautiful Lake Mendota, in Madison Wisconsin is the 2008 I.L.Y.A. A Scow One Design Championship Regatta. Twenty-nine of these magnificent racers have been showing off how gorgeous the A Scow is under sail!
The morning began with overcast skies and light rain for day one of the A Scow One Design regatta on Lake Mendota. The twenty-nine boats racing boasted a starting list of 31 but two boats cancelled in the AM of race day. A strong fleet with a marvelous day.
Race one belonged to John Porter's (at the helm) I-49 Full Throttle. Looks like five Porters on the winning team.
Race two was led start to finish by Chuck Lamphere with Hans Melges, Paul Nelson, David Porter, Miles Clark and Matt Prange on board.
Buddy Melges is sailing at Mendota and is atop the leader board. John Anderson with Buddy Melges at the helm sits in first with a 2-2. Some things never change.
Chair Brian Anderson has arranged a fantastic event at Governor Nelson Park. The sailboats and tenders are in and out each day in under an hour. Tonight's party is a return to the memorable Edgewater.
Results show 6 Geneva boats and four Minnetonka teams in the top ten.
