Giallongo's Value Team Wins Second Consecutive Primo Cup — Trophee Credit Suisse
10 February 2010
One year ago Benedetto Giallongo bought his first Audi Melges 20 and won the Credit Suisse Primo Cup in 2009. This year, he reigns supreme again but with two important differences, the crew has matured substantially and the competition is more fierce than ever.
Fourteen Audi Melges 20s participated at the Credit Suisse Primo Cup and for some, it was their first experience. Many thanks to the excellent Yacht Club de Monaco and the beautiful panoramic scenery of Monte Carlo, competitors have gotten their racing season off to a great start. The light air conditions proved difficult, so the battle for the cup was anything but easy. To prove this further, Giallongo was positioned in the lead with equal points of Luca Dominici on Notaro Team in second overall. Guido Miani on Out Of Reach was only one point back in third.
The first day of the championship was hard fought where the results seemed to only focus on Giallongo, Dominici and Miani. Although Marco Morino on Sei Tu took a surprising third place finish in the first part of the regatta, he remained in the second part of the ranking. Even when the breeze proves to be unsettled, consistency in results usually ends up being the deciding element of the Primo Cup.
"The class is growing on a more international scale," said Giallongo, who also happens to be Vice President of the International Audi Melges 20 Class. "We look forward to racing more throughout the season. Our Gold Cup in July will have all the world class attraction you can imagine. We expect as many as 40 from as far away as the U.S., Britain and Austria."
