September 11, 2010, (Rimini, Italy) - Rimini, the final stage of the 2010 Audi Melges 20 Sailing Series event in Europe has presented the perfect platform for the ultimate dual between defending Series Champion Benedetto Giallongo on Value Team and Francesco Farneti on Reggini Sailing Team. Clearly these two tougher-than-tough competitors are ready to go the distance.

Making the racing very interesting were the challenging conditions and seas. Waves came from every direction and varied in size as the breeze gradually decreased to 12 knots, enabling success for only the most sensitive of helms.

Farneti and crew performed well in both races completed on Saturday. He was quick to take to the left side of the course and then turned on the speed beating Giallongo around the course to win. Giallongo’s second place finish was the best he could do to counter and lessen the effects of Farneti’s attack.

The second race produced more tricky conditions as boat speed proved to be hard to achieve with the churning seas. Alexander Spring on Bela Vita with Nicolo Bianchi on tactics managed the win placing him in first place overall. Farneti and Giallongo were steady at it in race two with Reggini Sailing Team finishing in fourth and Value Team in eighth.

In the overall Series Classification, Giallongo leads by a very slim three points over Farneti. Sunday will be a battle of experience and strength against the rookie.
