Thanks to Leslie Barkow and Todd Haines for hosting the 2011 Winter Inland. What an event it was! Fun all around and productive meetings. First off the fun - what a brain trust!

Oldtiimers

The Masters (Melges, Buzzell, Pegel, Lindemann, and Casper) were joined by Gary Jobson (second from left) during the lunch break. Coincidentally the Ohio State-Wisconsin BB game was running in the bar which brought the crowd to a standstill but allowed for this casual conclave of all the best from an era gone by (not an era gone by for Melges who would later be presented with the Pillsbury Award).

Friday night began with junior sessions. Carl Spencer and Martin Barr and Mike Woldum led the crowd during the Opti and X fleet and Youth Development meetings. New to the X fleet will be a check of the rear traveler measurement at Clear Lake, talk of an experiment with a whisker pole launcher, vote to maintain the event as a three-race regatta and confirmation of the regatta cycle of Clear, Delavan, Oshkosh.

The Opti class reported the progress of White Bear for the Champs. Early reservations at hotels is recommended due to a golf tournament the same dates.

The Youth Doublehanded Champs will again be held at Calhoun the first weekend of August in Club 420s. No site has been named for the Youth Laser champs in 2011.

Saturday morning began with a challenge issued to the fleets to develop promotion plans for fleet improvement. The most exciting news to come to the Promotion Committee was Minnetonka's use of a fundraiser which has resulted in a most impressive list of sponsorship. The use of Foundation funds for Olympic to budding new sailors was presented. The two newest recipients were announced: Stephanie Roble for a December Matchracing clinic/regatta and whose parents attended the event, and Connor Trepton who competed in the Great Oaks Regatta with crew Katrina Debbink.
