Paul Reilly Wins Zenda University — All Graduate!
15 March 2012
Paul Reilly from Big Cedar Lake, Wisconsin continued his fantastic winter sailing by winning the MC Scow Zenda University Course. Nine races, over 30 practice starts and lots of tutorial were the highlights of this years Zenda University. Very light air both days made it difficult to get in as much sailing as the instructors would have liked yet much was accomplished over the 2 day scow racing course.
Melges Experts instructed the group of 24 boats at the Lake Eustis Sailing Club in Eustis, Florida. An annual event that has been going on for 15 years now. Zenda University has allowed many MC sailors to learn, progress and excel in the Melges MC class. The Zenda University course is run each year just prior to the MC Class Midwinter Championship. Instructors included Jim Gluek, Ted Keller, Eric Hood and Andy Burdick.
Paul Reilly was most consistent during the 9 race series however, Scott Harested from Spring Lake, Michigan was within 8 points of the championship. In third place was Brian Morgan from Dallas, Texas. Bob Cole from Kueka, NY was 4th. As you can see, attendance was from all over the USA. The MC has over 90 fleets nation wide and the Midwinter Championship draws boats in from all over the country. Zenda University provides even more reason to come down to Florida and race your Melges MC.
Most improved in event was Dennis Fisher from South Carolina. Dennis improved through the entire course and even won a race on the last day! Impressive improvement for sure!
