Corgard/Goldman Lead 29er Division At 2012 Orange Bowl Regatta

Article courtesy of Matt Pistay - The first day of the 2012 Open Orange Bowl International Regatta, hosted by Coconut Grove Sailing Club started with clear blue skies and not much wind on the race course. With a 2 p.m. start time, it wasn't looking good for the race committee to get races underway.
At 2:20 p.m. the race committee dropped the AP flag and sailors where heading out to not much wind on the bay.
Race One got underway at 3:30 p.m. as the wind came up to around 6-7 knots of wind. The first start resulted in a general recall, as all the boats headed back to the starting line.
And their off for the first race of the 2012 Open Orange Bowl Regatta. It was Dane and Quinn Wilson taking the early lead out starting gate, with Duncan Williford and Matt Mollerus nipping at their feet in second place. At the leeward mark it was Dane/Quinn Wilson extending their lead, turning upwind before taking down their spinnaker, falling back to fourth at the leeward mark. It was Williford/Mollerus squeezing into the number 1 spot, with Nick Muller and Kai Fresecke taking control of second place.
At the final weather mark, it was Williford/Mollerus, Corgard/Goldman in second and the Muller/Fresecke team in third. At the finish of race one, Corgard/Goldman took the bullet followed closely by Williford/Mollerus in second and Sam Gustin and Ian Woodbury taking third.
With the wind slowly fading away, Race Two got underway under a steady 5-6 knots from the Southeast.
At the first weather mark, Sweden's Dubois/Alnebeck took an early lead followed by Cody Stansky and Emmet Smith in second, and Canada's Stephane and Sophie Vinet in third. At the leeward mark, Dubois/Alnebeck, with their strong lead extended more. They selected the left gate but the majority of the rest of the fleet took to the right. Stansky/Smith held onto second place with Corgard/Goldman following close behind. At the final weathermark, the Vinet's continued to lead but they hit the mark and performed a penalty turn, leaving an opportunity for Dane and Quinn Wilson to make a move. They rounded the weather mark in second with Campbell D'Eliscu and Conner Kelter in third and Stansky/Smith in fourth.
At the finish of Race Two and the final race of Day One, Dane/Quinn Wilson to take the win. In second is Campbell D'Eliscu and Conner Kelter followed by Dubois/Alnebeck in third.
