Naples Edition 2014 Melges 32 Audi Tron Sailing Series Led By Ferrari’s Spirit of Nerina
12 April 2014
Naples, Italy - Andrea Ferrari’s Spirit of Nerina, thanks to the tactical expertise of Roberto Spata, has taken leadership of the overall standings after one day of racing in Naples, Italy at the Melges 32 Audi Tron Sailing Series hosted by the Comitato Grande Vela.
The Race Committee was able to run three races despite a very light Scirocco wind rewarding Ferrari as the leader of this first sailing day of this sailing circuit organised by B.Plan Sport&Events in cooperation with Melges Europe. The team leads by seven points, just ahead of Mascalzone Latino, helmed by Achille Onorato together with 2-time olympic champion Nick Rogers. Mauro Mocchegiani's Giacomel Audi e-tron supported by the Audi Italia Sailing of Riccardo Simoneschi is third.
Fourth place goes to Eduardo Lupi’s Torpyone. Rounding out the top five by a 2-point margin are Lupi, followed by Alessandro Rombelli’s Azimut by Stig, each waiting for the discard to be applied after race six to get rid of the twelve collected on Race Two. Racing will resume tomorrow morning starting from 10.30 am facing similar weather conditions as today.
