Melges 24s Revved Up in the Motor City
30 May 2014
Article courtesy of Sam Rogers — The Bayview One Design Regatta kicks off on Friday, May 30th with 18 Melges 24s ready to do battle on Lake St. Clair. With a rich yachting tradition, strong racing culture, and a fun clubhouse that is always pulsing with thirsty sailors, Bayview Yacht Club is an ideal site to race Melges 24s which have become a staple at this event in recent years.
For the 2014 edition, several strong teams are in attendance including Bruce Ayres and his Monsoon team who most recently were crowned as “Boat of the Week” at Charleston Race Week. Fresh off his win at the Muskgeon Spring Regatta, Steve Boho on The 300 will continue to do his best to improve in this tough fleet, and will have to contend with Kevin Welch and his team from Seattle on Mikey, along with Texan Steve Rynne on Mojo. Several other veteran and rookie teams are here to make a push for a podium finish while enjoying the sailing at Bayview.
Eight races are scheduled over three days of racing, and with a light, hot early summer forecast in store, the sailing will be challenging and will shuffle the fleet at a moments notice. Stay tuned to usmelges24.com for updated results and photos.
