Loano Named As the First Venue to Crown the First 2015 Audi-Tron Sailing Series Melges Champions
20 March 2015
Loano, Italy — All three brands of Melges boats will participate in the 2015 Audi-tron Sailing Series organized by B.Plan Sport/Events, and the first event of the season will commence in Loano, Italy on Friday, April 3 for three consecutive weekends in a row.
First up to play is the Melges 24 on 3-5 April, then the Audi Melges 20 on 11-12 April and finally, the supersonic Melges 32 will complete the Loano act on 17-19 April.
This is not the first time that the Audi-tron Sailing Series will visit Loano. Back in 2012, the circuit opened with the victory of Lanfranco Cirillo’s Melges 32 Fantastica and Renato Vallivero’s Audi Melges 20 Turnover.
Considering that this event marks the opening of the popular championship series, it is difficult to gauge just exactly who the favorite teams will be. But, if history serves well, for sure great performances are expected from Manfredi Vianini Tolomei aboard Maolca, Guido Miani’s Monaco Racing Fleet, Achille Onorato’s Mascalzone Latino Jr., Agusta Corrado’s Customly.com, Carlo Perrone’s Atlantichina and Yury Morozov's Russotrans. Riccardo Simoneschi’s Audi-tron, and Andrea Racchelli’s Altea will lead the parade of potential winners in the Melges 24. Valentin Zavadnikov’s Synergy GT and Roberto Tomasini Grinover’s Robertissima will be at the forefront the Melges 32 Class.
Each event will be staged in Loano and based out of Marina di Loano. The facility offers a modern boat-shaped siloutte built to accommodate more than 1,000 boats and considered one of the city’s main attractions run by Commodore Giorgio Benussi. It offers a dynamic and posh atmosphere that will make it an unforgettable experience for every team.
With a population of approximately 12,000 citizens, Loano has so much to offer. Another main attraction is the Riviera delle Palme, a venue suited to fulfill anyone's taste whether it be of cultural, sport or culinary interest. The city offers a wide range of restaurants, pubs and wine bars.
A must do while in Loano — a walk along the Corso Roma, which will prove to be particularly busy over the spring weekends, and a visit in the olde town with Doria Palace where the Monte Carmelo monastery and its cathedral are located — a landmark funded by the Doria family that governed from 1200 until 1600.
