Macatawa Bay, MI — Opening day at the 2015 Melges 17 National Championship delivered two great races for fleet of twenty-three. Long-time Melges sailor and owner Rob Terry on Thrillseeker has taken the early event lead one point ahead of Jeff MacKeigan on Dos Amigos. The very young and aspiring, former National Champ Harry Melges IV on White Heat is seated in third.

Hosted by the Macatawa Bay Yacht Club, two races revealed two different winners.

The first race of the day was one by second-overall MacKeigan followed by Tom Munroe on USA-11. Terry took third while Bob Heathcote on hellifiknow and Chad Coberly on USA-3 rounded out the top five, finishing the race fourth and fifth respectively.

Young Melges bounced back from a sixth score in Race One to win Race Two. Terry never let up on his chase for the top position challenging Melges at every buoy to finish in second, sealing the deal on his overnight lead. Brian McMurray on Catbird finished third.

Racing in Macatawa continues on Saturday.
