Toronto, Canada — Congratulations to Richard Davies, his tactician Charlie McKee and teammate Matt Pistay aboard Section 16 as they are the newly crowned Canadian National Champions. After eight races and one discard in play, Davies extended his lead further on Saturday, then put it all on wax on Sunday. Drew Weirda’s Peshmerga had a great regatta to overtake Hiroshi Kurokawa’s SPRAY on the final day to finish second overall.

Justin Quigg on Character 2.0 (who is also celebrating a birthday today) finished up in fourth overall with Frank McLaughlin’s CAN-254 in fifth.

Big breeze reigned supreme on Saturday enabling Davies to sustain his lead earned on Friday, as did Kurokawa — he held firm in second.

On Sunday, many things changed not only in the scoring category, but the weather and racing conditions too. The breeze remained in place at around 18-20 knots with an expected higher gust or two to keep everyone on their toes. Overnight the temperatures plummeted some 15 degrees and with the lake still frigid, chilly conditions were to be expected.

Davies sailed well in the final races, submitting an impressive scoreline with nothing worse than a second place finish.

Weirda won the last heat that paired with a couple of top three daily finishes, he easily advanced past Kurokawa to accept his best overall finish ever in the Audi Melges 20 Class.
