MC Speed Tips
All Purpose Mast Rake:  28'3"  in all conditions.

Keep your spreaders pinned in the forward position on the spreader bracket for all Melges Spars and Boats.
Downwind board position. Shown above is 1/2 down which is too far when sailing the boat downwind on a Windward-Leeward course.
Correct board position for the MC Scow when sailing downwind on a Windward-Leeward course. In lighter airs you can actually pull the board up a little more than pictured here. Remember the side you are sitting on is the side that has the board down when going downwind.
Depowering your MC: Order of Sail Controls:  1. Vang  2. Traveler 3.Cunningham. Your outhaul should be max on anytime your begin to use your sail controls.

Use Starbrite Teflon to clean and protect your MC hull. It is fast too!

Multi-puchase board pull up system on the MC Scow Can be added to older boats. Allows for easier board pull up and use of smaller Spectra lines that can be tied to board head instead of splicing. A must for quick, smooth board up and down movements.

The MC Cascade boom vang, outhaul and Cunningham hook-up. Cascade vangs are probably one of the most important items on your boat. If you add to an old boat you must reduce to a 4:1 the purchase in the backbone. If you do not do this the system will not works and it will be over class legal limit of 16:1. All lines shown here are Spectra and match in color to the control lines aft with the skipper and crew. Learning how to use the Cascade vang effectively takes practice, but once you do, your sailing and racing will become much easier in all conditions.

Wetsand your boards and rudder with 600 grit wet sandpaper for a smooth, clean finish.

Use Spectra line for your vang and cunningham.

Correct hook-up of the Melges custom forestay shackle. Again, notice how we have taped three areas for safety. The forestay goes in the aft hole of the bowplate. This is a very important high load hook-up. This must be done right.

Sidestay attachment point is the forward hole on your chainplates. The aft hole is your 3-point lifting bridle. Notice how we have taped the sidestay and turnbuckle attachment point at the clevis pin area for safety. Also, we have tape just below the adjuster nut to insure the safety clip stays in place.

Skipper/crew control area. Yellow is Cunningham, Red is boom vang, white is traveler. Notice how all three mainsheet blocks are in line with the boom. Make sure your blocks are set with their set screws or levers on each block. Also notice how we have the tail of each control tucked forward of it's own cleat. Develop a habit of good housekeeping on the boat and it will make a difference when you go you make quick adjustments.
The Melges MC Scow with it's galvanzied trailer, wheel jack and full deck cover.
The transom of the MC Scow. Can you find the most important item in this picture?
It is the O-ring on the top pinntle. If you tip over this will prevent the rudder from coming off the boat.
36" Forespar tiller extension is standard on the MC Scow
