It is no surprise to find multiple World Champion and brand new Melges 32 owner Vincenzo Onorato aboard ITA-2121 Mascalzone Latino with Adrian Stead calling tactics with crew Matteo Savelli, Marco Cornacchia, Davide Mereghetti, Daniele Fiaschi, Jerry Mitchel and Andrea Ballico atop the final results at the 2009 Melges 32 Primo Cup, hosted by Yacht Club de Monaco. In second overall is Fausto Rubbini on ITA-170 Thule with Edoardo Lupi on ITA-487 Torpyone in third.

A total of seven beautiful Melges 32s raced the three day event with Rubbini taking an immediate lead. The racing was as tight as it could possibly get with very few points separating the participants from the first start on day one to the final finish on Sunday.

The first day of racing was intense as the teams started with a 15-25 knots of breeze at the start with quite a few broaches, Rubbini dealt with one himself, allowing Onorato to get ahead. Rubbini, with the help of 2008 Melges 24 World Champion and recently named 2009 Melges 24 ACURA Key West Champion Lorenzo Bressani as tactician, he brought his Melges 32 to cross the finish line first.

Two more races were held with the breeze offering up a challenging mix of conditions with Rubbini taking the overnight lead.

Saturday's racing resulted in another stellar performance by Onorato ultimately taking the regatta lead and on Sunday — took the win!

This is the very first time that Onorato has sailed the Melges 32 competitively. On the Monday prior of the event, the boat was unloaded from the container for the first time ever, set-up and rigged. The Mascalzone Latino were just too strong to overtake the phenomenal tactics of Lorenzo Bressani and the likes of others such as Andrea Casale and 2006 Melges 24 World Champion Nicola Celon!
